Vijayakumar is an IPS officer from Tamil Nadu. 1975 batch of IPS officers. Vijaykumar was initially posted as Assistant Superintendent of Police, Pattukottai.

Subsequently, Vijaykumar IPS was posted to the central government and was the head of Rajiv Gandhi’s bodyguard. After returning to Tamil Nadu Police, Vijaykumar served as IPS Dindigul District SP. When Jayalalithaa became Chief Minister in 1991, Vijay Kumar was her bodyguard chief.

Subsequently, Vijaykumar IPS was appointed as Chennai Police Commissioner and Commando Force Chief. In 2004, he was involved in the operation in which Veerappan was shot dead.
After performing well in Tamil Nadu Police, Vijaykumar IPS was called back to Central Government. He retired as the Director General of Armed Forces in 2012.

However, the central government granted an extension to Vijaykumar IPS. He retired from that job in 2018. Subsequently, he acted as an advisor to the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. Later, he was appointed as Senior Advisor to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
In this case, Vijayakumar IPS has resigned from the central government service. He said that he resigned due to personal reasons and thanked Prime Minister Modi, Amit Shah and others
