The novel is based on ‘Ponnyin Selvan’. In the 1950s, MG Ramachandran (MGR) tried to make a film on it, but failed. After that, Mani Ratnam himself wanted to translate this saga into a film twice, but his efforts did not succeed. Finally in 2019, Mani Ratnam started working on his dream project.

Review of ‘Ponnian Selvan’
Film Review : Ponniyin Selvan Part-1
When Mani Ratnam made the film ‘Ponniyin Selvan’, it was considered Tamil cinema’s answer to the Telugu superhit film ‘Baahubali’. However, it would not be right to compare this film to ‘Baahubali’ because it is based on a true event, while Baahubali was a fiction. In the Hindi version, the film begins with the powerful voice of Ajay Devgan in the background, who introduces you to the story of the film. After that, the film moves forward at a slower pace.

The film is still unable to get out of the inner conspiracies of the Raj Mahal and takes an interval. After the interval, the magnificent sight of the Chola Empire’s vast navy on the Sinhalese Islands is expected to be somewhat vigorous, but even that battle was nothing special. However, the war sequence filmed in the sea at the climax of the film definitely captivates the audience.

Director Mani Ratnam has shot this saga in a very grand manner, but the pace of the film is quite slow so it does not sustain the excitement in you. In films made on such a grand scale, the audience comes to the cinema hoping for some bang, but in that case ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ disappoints. Hopefully, Mani Ratnam will make up for it in the second half of the film.
From the beginning to the end, he is seen in full color. Jayam Ravi’s entry is in the second half. He has done excellent acting. Chian Vikram did not get much chance in the first part of the film. Despite this, he looks strong on the screen. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is always attractive. At the same time, Trisha Krishnan also plays the role of the clever princess.

The beautiful music of the film is given by AR Rahman. Whereas Ravivarman’s cinematography is best . Its dialogues in Hindi have been written by Divya Prakash Dubey, the well-known writer of New Hindi. He is completely successful in bringing this Tamil Mahagatha to the Hindi audience through simple dialogues. If you want to see the grand epic of the Chola empire, you can go to the cinema this weekend.
