Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur announced the award, known as the ‘highest honor in the Indian film industry’, on Tuesday.

PTI, New Delhi: The Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2020 has been announced for veteran actress Asha Parekh. Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur announced the award, known as the ‘highest honor in the Indian film industry’, on Tuesday. 79-year-old Asha Parekh will be honored with this award at the 68th National Film Awards distribution ceremony to be held on Friday.

Asha Bhosle, Hema Malini, Poonam Dhillon, Udit Narayan, T. S. Parekh was selected for this award by a committee of five dignitaries including Nagbharan. Talking to reporters in his constituency Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh, Thakur said that the selection committee has decided to honor veteran actress Asha Parekh with this award. Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is proud to announce his name for this award.

Asha Parekh started her career at the age of ten. His acting career spanned nearly fifty years. He acted in more than 95 films. Among these, his roles in many films like ‘Dil Deke Dekho’, ‘Kati Patang’, ‘Tisri Manzil’, ‘Baharon Ke Sapne’, ‘Pyaar Ka Mausam’, ‘Karawaan’ became popular. She established herself as one of the most influential actresses in Hindi cinema. From black-and-white films to color films, he enjoyed a long career. He was also honored with the ‘Padma Shri’ award in 1992. The 2019 Phalke Award was presented to Rajinikanth.

‘The Hit Girl’

In 1952, he acted as a child actor in the film ‘Aasmaan’. Two years later, he acted in Bimal Roy’s film ‘Bap-Beti’. However, her career as an actress started with Naseer Hussain’s 1959 film Dil Deke Dekho. Actor Shammi Kapoor was the hero in this film. By the end of 1990, Asha Parekh also made a career as a producer and director. The television series ‘Kora Kagaz’ produced-directed by him was popular. In 2017, her autobiography ‘The Hit Girl’, co-authored with renowned film critic Khalid Mohammad, was released.
